Paton Welding Institute Training and Qualification Centre offers a flexible program of training and qualification of welders. Training is performed for MMA (111), TIG (141) and MIG/MAG (135/136) welding methods. The workshop is equipped with various units for beginners’ training (including simulators of original design with related software), welding posts for the methods mentioned above as well as a full set of equipment for NDT and mechanical tests needed for qualification procedures.
Training program is in full accordance with the Guideline of the International Institute of Welding for training and qualification of International welders IAB-089, latest revision.
Theoretical training is divided into several modules including general information about welding (including imperfections’ review, labour protection and related international standards); welding processes and special base materials (if needed). The combination of theoretical module depends on qualification to be obtained: joint type, process and base material.
Practical education includes up to 6 modules. Duration of each module and tasks to be performed depend on qualification to be obtained.
Approximate duration of training is listed in the table below. The base material is considered to be carbon steel. In case of welding of stainless steels or aluminum the training duration (both theoretical and practical) will be extended. Also please note that the training hours listed in the table do not include either written or practical exams and are listed for the case of full training course. For example, if applicant has finalized fillet welds part of the course in MMA welding (165 hours) and proceeds to plate welding, the plate welding training will be 330 – 165 = 165 hours.
Some modules of theoretical and practical education can be skipped if the candidate already has a valid welder’s certificate or work experience according to rules and procedures specified in related IAB guidelines.
Final examination includes written exams (tests) for each theoretical module and welding. In case of successful exams the candidate is granted:
- International Welder’s diploma of the relevant level (fillet welds, plates, tubes);
- ISO 9606-1 certificates for each qualification test performed.
Upon the decision of the candidate the training centre may issue IW diploma for lower qualifications as well (for example, International Tube Welder may also get International Plate and International Fillet Welders’ diplomas). Please note that his rule cannot be applied for welding processes and base materials (if the person was trained to weld aluminum with TIG welding he cannot be awarded a diploma in TIG welding if stainless steel or MIG welding of aluminum).
